Is Your Estate Plan Outdated? 5 Signs It’s Time for a Trust Update
An estate plan is not a "set it and forget it" document. As your life changes, your trust must evolve to reflect your current reality.
Generally, it is recommended to review your trust every 3 to 5 years, or immediately following any of these "Life Transitions":
Changes in Relationships: Marriage, divorce, or a new domestic partnership.
Growth of Your Family: The birth or adoption of children or grandchildren.
Financial Shifts: Purchasing new real estate, starting a business, or receiving a significant inheritance.
Relocation: Moving to a different state (or even out of the country) can impact how your trust is governed.
Change of Heart: You may find that the person you originally named as your successor trustee or executor is no longer the best fit for the role.
Regular maintenance ensures that your assets are protected and your legacy is handled exactly as you intended.
